Currently November

Hard to believe it's already November and time for Currently with Farley at Oh'Boy 4th Grade!!
Listening: My daughter & her roomie host a weekly music spot on their college radio station, WRGW! It's so fun to hear her voice (since she's soooo far away. . .) and I can attempt to be "hip" mom, listening to some music other than my 80's classics!!
Loving: Our first rain in forever was cause for celebration and the cool, crisp air following! I am actually wearing a long-sleeve shirt!! I'm choosing not to focus on the 88 degree weather that's back later this week!
Thinking: Student-led conferences are coming quickly! Report card grades are due this week and my kids are working on their portfolios, filling out Self-Report Cards, setting goals, and preparing to lead their conferences. This is always one of my most favorite times of year!! Parents are amazed at how articulate their children are about accurately assessing their strengths and area for improvement.
Wanting: I admit, I'm a shoe addict. . . and change of season is always a good reason as any, to buy new shoes! And I love boots, especially if I can find ones that fit over my calves. . .oy!
Needing: Somehow, cleaning & straightening up (why do teachers always have SO many papers, books & "stuff"?!)  is always the last thing on my priority list. . . but having family & friends over this month will be the motivation I need! (It helps having my college daughter's room empty . . . shhh... don't tell her it's become Mom's "catch-all" room! She comes back in December. . . I have a month to organize!)
Reading: Things have been SOOOO hectic, that all I've had the time & concentration for is reading a short Guidepost magazine article here & there. (Other than reading to my kids at school: currently Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell!) I love Guideposts and all the inspiring, uplifting articles! However, next on my list to read for me is A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki. I can't wait for our week off at Thanksgiving to spend time reading!
Thanks, Farley, for Currently linky!
Happy November!

  1. Hi Kathie! I'm also needing the time and motivation to clean my house! It's so tough to fit everything in on the weekends and unfortunately, cleaning is not on my priority list right now. So cool to be able to listen to your daughter on the radio!!

    Happy November!!

    1. Never enough time!! But I am reading an awesome book (well, WAS reading and only have 2 more chapters to go. . . gotta get back to it!) called The Unhurried Life (ironic, I know) by Alan Fadler. An unhurried life is my ultimate aspiration :)

  2. I'm glad to see that someone else is enjoying this fall weather, even if we are on completely opposite coasts! I'm a shoe addict too and I am loving all the boots that are out. I like the idea of student led conferences. I like that they hold the students accountable!

    1. Hi Kayla, Student-Led Conferences are AWESOME & I'll never go back to Parent Teacher conferences! Some of my kinder teachers have adapted them for their kids, too. I plan on writing a post about this in the upcoming week!

  3. Found you blog thru Farley's linkup. I totally understand about not having time to read! I finally made myself take the time to just curl up and enjoy reading again, especially watching kids check out cool books all day :) Enjoyed reading your blog!

  4. Hi Kathie! Your family is beautiful and bright! I've just been perusing your blog and feel like we could be teaching partners! I share your passion for teaching and learning and after 34 years am probably more excited about my profession than ever! I loved team teaching in 4th grade! We had our students lead their conferences, too, and it was always a huge success (and easy for us teachers) because the students did all the hard work explaining. We never figured out why everyone didn't use student-led conferences. Happy fall! I'm happy to have found you!
