Celebrating the Love of Reading!!

What a wonderful week, full of activities celebrating the love of reading! Beginning with Read Across America Day on March 2nd, we started off the week with classroom door decorating throughout my school. Evidence of Pinterest was abound! Lol! Student Council representatives walked around judging the doors based on attractiveness and if the door made them want to read!  There were some really fantastic doors!! (I'll have to post some of those pics next week!!) But my kids did love OUR door, even though we came in 2nd place :)
I love the quote on our "TV screen"! You can grab a copy here.

We started off our week with children's author, Marc Clark back to visit my class. He shared his newest ebook, The Prince who Was Afraid of the Dark (my kids were mesmerized!) and to sign his book, The  Royal Fables. Some of my students had submitted illustrations and they were thrilled to see it published! 100% of the book sales proceeds go back to children's cancer research. Check out Marc's website! He loves to visit schools!
Each morning during Literacy Week, various parents were guest readers. They were all such good sports & agreed to wear our Cat in the Hat hat while reading!
All students in our school made bookmarks for their reading buddies, then read to each other one day during the week. (My fourth graders meet monthly with our second grade buddies to do various activities.)
Thursday was "Read my Shirt" day. All students at school wore a shirt with (appropriate) writing on it. I love that kids understand that reading is not just a subject at school or just in books! Every year I wear a shirt I made with my FAVORITE saying, "Explain your thinking!" (My kids groan when they read it! Lol!) My fourth grade partner wore a Spiderman graphic novel shirt! (There's actually print/text from the comics printed on it!)
It was a GREAt week! How did you celebrate Read Across America Day and Literacy Week with your students?
