A Math Website for Girls, By Girls

I am so excited to share the launching of a new website, MS. Math!! It was designed by a former student of mine, Julia DeHart, as her Girl Scout Gold Award project.  In her words, "I decided to use my strength and passion for math and science to help girls in my community. I noticed that around the Middle School age some girls become discouraged and uninterested in math due to the increased difficulty level. While I was in Middle School,  I tutored girls in my class, so now that I am older I wanted to continue helping girls."
Her website includes videos about important math concepts that middle schoolers encounter. (She interviewed several middle school math teachers to find out which concepts are the most difficult for their students.) She has also included short bios about accomplished women in STEAM fields (science, technology, engineering, art, and math). Julia wants to encourage girls who may become disinterested in math to explore STEAM careers and the endless possibilities they offer.

The videos are terrific to share with your classes and as a resource for students and families to rewatch at home!! Students can  can watch, rewind, and fast-forward as needed. What a fantastic way to review and ensure comprehension of math concepts.  Please share this awesome resource!!
